100 WORKS & 100 BOOKS: SELECTED WORKS AND ARTISTS’ BOOKS FROM EXHIBITIONS AND THE PERMANENT COLLECTION OF THE ATHENAEUM MUSIC & ARTS LIBRARY, 1991–2022

The Athenaeum’s most recent publication is a full-color hard-bound book presenting examples of 100 works of art presented at the Athenaeum between 1991–2022 as well as examples of 100 artists’ books that were brought into the collection during that same period.  In her essay, “Intimate, serious, Earnest, Approachable” writer on the visual arts Leah Ollman describes the evolution of the exhibition program as one that achieved “a rare equilibrium between intimate scale and serious ambition.” The second part of the publication, with an essay by artist and curator Marshall Weber, provides insight to the collection of artists’ books that was born and grew under Erika Torri’s leadership. The Athenaeum’s Erika & Fred Torri Artists’ Books Collection is an internationally renowned collection of local and conceptual works that has grown exponentially since its inception in 1991.
